Reversing fan direction

Just bought a Lolocost fan and found out its a "puller". I need a "blower. Could anyone please tell me if it is possible to change the fan direction by altering the wiring as it's not possible to just turn the fan assembly over.

Thanks

Reversing the direction doesn't always work as the vanes are shaped to work better in one direction, unless it is a bidirectional fan.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

depends on what type of motor you've got, if the field coil is a permanent magnet ie no wires then its easy, just wire it up the other way round, but if the field coil is a winding then no its not easy and you would better to find another fan.

Why does everything happen to me

Hi,

Is it the Honda one ?

I mounted mine in front of the rad and swopped the wires round.
My blades are symetrical.

Hope this helps.

How about just mounting the fan in front of the rad, so as it sucks on to the fan, not from it, might just need to space it a bit more thats all ???

Had same thing with my mazda build - swapped supplies to make it run backwards & modified fan so it went on shaft the other way round (easy to do with a metro fan). Been OK for 6 years

you are not saying suck forwards?

the incoming wind on the move will cancel it out!

I have one of these honda lolocost things. They will run backwards if you revers wires, and seem to throw a fair bit of air though.

Fan blade profiles are meant to run other direction tho

Steve, steve, I meant leave it facing the correct way but to put it in front of the fan, and not behind it, then it would suck air from the grill, on to the rad behind it !!

Get a Citroen BX fan - goes in front of the rad and is easy to fixin place.

Cheers

Chris

the housing is meant to fit snug against the rad and the fan is to that side, so if ya turn it around (your saying that?) the mounts and the plastic shrouded moulding will be all wrong.....

Yeah i know it's a bodge, and that's why i mentioned about spacing it/spacers, i was thinking of a locost alternative to a new fan, I also havn't seen the fan in question so was hoping it wasn't in a shroud, but if you can change it's direction by just reversing the polarity on the cables , then what the hey even cheaper
