What sprint class should I be in, what class do you run?
mark chandler - 4/5/15 at 05:37 PM

I,ve done three sprints in my little car, entering as sports libre, however I am wondering if this is correct

It tends to be a lonely class, with a 918 turbo engine I,m wondering if I should go as a modified limited production

Category C. Modified Limited Production Cars (S.10.10.3) and Modified Specialist production Cars (S 10.10.4)
Class 9 Up to 1400cc
Class 10 Over 1400cc to 2000cc
Class 11 Over 2000cc
Category D. Sports Libre Cars (S.10.10.6)
Class 12 Up to 1800cc
Class 13 Over 1800cc

On the basis that the car is based upon a limited production chassis, Stuart Taylor et al then this should be correct?

Category C. Modified Limited Production Cars & Modified Specialist Production Cars.
Cars must comply with regulations S. 12.1 to 12.9.2

Which will then make me class 9

So what class do you run in, no reverse excludes me from a road going class.

Cheers Mark

C10 I think Mark, A8 if you where fully road legal (I'd try A8 and see if anyone complains, never seen reverse checked.) A8 is the class I'm in

daniel mason - 4/5/15 at 06:11 PM

Why c10 JW?

jeffw - 4/5/15 at 06:18 PM

Turbo bike engine...? Could be c11 I suppose

mark chandler - 4/5/15 at 06:23 PM

With turbo brings me out at 1,285cc so I am thinking class 9?

jeffw - 4/5/15 at 06:27 PM

BECs are always in the class above.

From the Debden regs

Category A: Road-Going Series Production Cars (S10.10.1) and Road Going Specialist Production Cars
(S10.10. 2) excluding cars in Appendix 1
1. ‘Standard Cars’ (Appendix 2) up to 1600cc – 2wd only, list 1A tyres only
2. ‘Standard Cars’ (Appendix 2) from 1601cc to 2000cc – 2wd only, list 1A tyres only
3. Up to 1400cc – 2wd, list 1a or 1b tyres
4. 1401 to 2000cc – 2wd, list 1a or 1b tyres
5. 2001cc and over – 2wd, list 1a or 1b tyres
6. 4 wheel drive cars of all capacities, list 1a or 1b tyres

Road Going Kit Type and Replica Cars including cars in Appendix 1
7. Up to 1700cc, list 1a or 1b tyres
8. 1701 cc and over, list 1a or 1b tyres

Category B: Modified Limited Production Cars (S10.10.3) and Modified Specialist Production Cars (S.10.10.4)
excluding Group B Sports Cars, GTI Sports Cars, Motorcycle-Engined Cars and World Rally Cars
9. Up to 1400cc
10. 1401 to 2000cc
11. 2001cc and over

Category C: Sports Libre Cars (S10.10.6) (Special Saloons, Hill Climb Supersports Chassis Cars, Sports
Racing Cars, Group B Sports Cars, GT1 Sports Cars and World Rally Cars)
12. Up to 1800cc, plus motorcycle engines up to 1100cc
13. 1801cc and over, plus motorcycle engines over 1100cc

So you are either in A8 or C13 with these regs.

mark chandler - 4/5/15 at 06:44 PM

Jeez, not even the same classes then between clubs....

FDMC sports libre up to 1,800cc debnen up to 1,100cc

I,m running slicks, although do have class 1b tyres as well, however my preference is to score overall as 4th at the weekend behind Simon (dopdog) by 0.2 second both giving way to a well sorted Westfield driven by race instructors.

It just seems a shame to be in a class of 1

CatB class 9 is still looking good, but with FDMC

So do you think I am okay as modified production or will have to stay sports libre

Thanks for the responses so far

Dopdog - 4/5/15 at 10:11 PM

HI Mark,

it is only the FDMC that let me run in mod prod class 9. all other events I end up in sport libre but you would be with me in C13 as with the turbo you end up with 1200cc. there is always some interesting stuff out there.

Dopdog - 4/5/15 at 10:13 PM

forgot to add mod prod sometimes don't let space frames in so again we are out.

daniel mason - 4/5/15 at 10:24 PM

Wouldn't you think one set of regs should be used? It's crazy how all these regs change depending on where you are.little libre and race cars seem to van self explanatory and that's where I'll stay!

jeffw - 5/5/15 at 06:11 AM

Don't ever enter a Brighton & Hove MC sprint then lol....

This is my class for Saturday

Ford Sierra XR 4x4 2000/2800 T 6
Porsche Carrera 3400 N 6
Nissan 350Z 3500 N 6
Sylva Phoenix 2000/2800 S 6
Ford Sierra 2000/2800 T 6
BMW E30 2300/3220 S 6
Ford Sierra 2933/4106 T 6
Volvo 142 2500 N 6

daniel mason - 5/5/15 at 06:18 AM

That's a mixed bag! But please don't get beat by your donor car!

jeffw - 5/5/15 at 06:49 AM

No Sierra bits on the Phoenix.....all Escort I'll have you know !

Now that's crazy as you are now excluding classic cars like DB4's

As long as I can keep running I'm happy

jeffw - 5/5/15 at 07:52 AM

fit a reverse and come and play in A8...

mark chandler - 5/5/15 at 09:34 AM

It then needs tax, mot and insurance

And then when you start doing well the "excludes bike engines" creeps in.

When this engine goes bang I will seriously consider moving the turbo over to a nice light sigma or similar and drag it all towards the passenger seat for balance

So full of plans, so little time, I need to retire !

OliilO - 5/5/15 at 08:15 PM

Without getting too into the Blue Book, is anything without reverse going to fall into Sport Lbre even if it is road legal at the time?

daniel mason - 5/5/15 at 08:24 PM

Not got the blue book on me at moment but you can run slicks in modified specialist production so doesn't need to be road legal. But as for reverse,I wouldn't know for sue without looking at the book.
I have last years book still if you want me to send it to you for a look

lsdweb - 5/5/15 at 09:00 PM

2015 Blue Book Section S - https://www.msauk.org/assets/335-346specificregulationsforsprintshillclimbsanddragracings-1.pdf

mark chandler - 5/5/15 at 09:05 PM

Transmission
10.8.1. For Road-Going Series Production, Road-Going Specialist Production Cars, the reverse gear must remain operable at all times.
10.8.2. For Modified Series Production, Modified Specialist Production Cars, Hill Climb Super Sports, Sports Libre and Racing Cars, reverse gear is not required.

So if a Locost can qualify as a " Modified Specialist Production" then I am okay to move away from sports libre

daniel mason - 5/5/15 at 09:09 PM

There are regs on what complies with modified specialist in terms of chassis numbers and engine blocks I think

OliilO - 5/5/15 at 09:16 PM

Yes, it says over 20 chassis produced in a year. Not sure how a locost fits in there.

Also states over 1000 engines produced and fitted to a land vehicle, but my interpretation is that they can be from any source - so a blade engine should qualify.

jeffw - 6/5/15 at 05:55 AM

Except for the regs that say no BEC in mod prod.

[Edited on 6/5/15 by jeffw]

mark chandler - 6/5/15 at 07:12 AM

Ah well, sports libre it is then except for FDMC sprints, we get two of those a year.

Thanks for all the replies chaps.

JimSpencer - 6/5/15 at 08:30 AM

Hi

Several Locosts running in Mod Prod, it'll be just fine,
