Best brake pads for sr20det powered la gold pro comp on 13's
Duncan Grier - 3/6/13 at 10:07 AM

Ok so although I build this 2 years ago it only got out last year on track for the 1st time (new family )

5hrs on track with 2 minors both of which in the process of resolving before back out 5th July

Brakes...............well they just never really worked

Car is running grooved / vented discs up front on escort mk3 calipers / greenstuff (old and 3/4 worn) but fresh dot4 racing fluid, rears are sierra calipers on solid discs and was very old fluid and due to seized nipple never changed on the day

Ayway at the weekend got them all apart and once I flushed the rears (there was a fair chunk of air also) found the pads and discs were not really fully contacting and mixed with the very old dirty fluid and air is no suprise they were useless

Rear pads were some oem looking mintex pad cant remember which now but not 1144 etc

So have some fresh greenstuff on the front as they were in the spares bin but tempted to go straight to 1144's or the best track pad avaiable

Advice please - car not road legal and track only - tyres 048's - power about 240bhp and 250ft/lbs atm and full pro comp magic in place with brake bias etc. Expect weight is sub 600kg

I have ran some really nice aggressive pads on the track beastie vx220 turbo but just not sure if the temp will be there in this type of car even on track

Really hope we can get decent stopping power on the current caliper / disc setup - sure some fancy 4 pot arrangment will get on in years to come but need to get out using it more 1st, hence not going crazy on power yet and 1st batch of cash going to pro comp to rework a few mods

All the best
DG

mintex 1155's for track only use

Duncan Grier - 3/6/13 at 06:28 PM

Thanks,

Are the 55's ok to get temp into?

Ran 1144's once a long time ago in the vx220 on track and eat themselves in about 120 mile from new to gone :O but lot heavier cars

Really appriciate anyones views / findings

So so far its 1155's - as stated track use only

Ok so maybe 1144 are going to be just fine and warm up quicker than the 1155's

May stalk the mighty procomp today, had hoped to get the car in for some tweeks prior to the track day but time is against me with other duties

Thanks for the replies so far - need to order the bits up this week so any further feedback welcomed

Ok obI one Matt at Pro comp recommended 1144 front and normal compound rears by apec or ferodo

1155 for full race conditions

Alway the fountain of knowledge and even some positive info on my rear live axle and abilities ref power. And there was me worried with the current 230bhp lol
