Driving course for a 16 year old

I'm interested in getting my son some practical driving experience 'off road' before his 17 birthday. He is 16 now and looking forward to being able to get behind the wheel (as we all were!) ASAP.

I've found this

http://www.alconburydrivingcentre.com/p16-info.php

Does anyone have any experience of this course?

I've also thought about a Bedford Autodrome 'young driver' driving experience, but this is seems a little more gimmicky as opposed to good training.

Can anyone offer alternatives? We live between Bedford and Luton.

Thanks in advance!

I brought a similar experience for my brother (19 but epileptic so couldn't drive) and sister (13) at brands a couple of years ago. It was really good. My sister now feels confident enough to drive my cars (on private land of course)

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

From your location I would probably say the M1 is the best place...

Well that's where everyone else who can't drive goes!!

Jouin a local motor club, take him autotesting. That is legit from age 14 if they have a driver with them. Learn far more than a fancy driving experience.
I think it is a real shame somebody doesn't just hire an airfield, and get some driving instructors along. That would cost about £15 for 1/2 hour sessions, and maybe £5 if supervised by a parent. That would be the best thing I guess.
But the motor clubs often encourage youngsters in (my 15yo daughter is about to get our motor clubs "winter rally" series trophy for navigating, and probably the overall "novice" award too )
