Help needed type 9 hydraulic set up

Hi,
I'm struggling to get my hydraulic clutch working since swapping from zetec silver top to st170, shouldn't be any difference? I couldn't find what the original set up was so I ordered a retro Ford zetec billet flywheel and pinto cover plate, which looked like I had to remove the spacer so done this. If I compressed the release bearing and measured back from bell housing face and block to finger tips of cover plate it was the same? But didn't work (the whole time it felt like I had a pedal so tried pedal adjustment.....
Still didn't work so I removed the engine again and re fitted the original setup with the spacer back in and then I popped the slave cylinder 😡. I've now removed the engine again and left puzzled/needing help? Any helps would be appreciated please.

Kindest regards,

Paul

It might be helpful if you cut a small inspection hole in the bell housing so you can see what's happening inside there that way you can determine -

1) Is there enough travel of the throw bearing to push the springs in? due to maybe the master cylinder being to small or the slave being too big

2) Is the slave pushrod adjusted correctly, does it have too much play (it should have around a 1mm)

3) Is there too big a gap between the clutch springs and throw bearing, so all your travel is used up before the pressure plate separates?

4) Is the throw bearing returning too far due to incorrectly fitted seals rather than resting against the throw bearing? i.e. is it self adjusting...

5) Have you got air in the system so nothings moving?

Been sat for 6 months, are you sure the clutch isn't stuck on?

You need to do some basic checks, with a crowbar can you move the arm far enough to disengage the clutch, if so can the slave move that far, if so does the master pump sufficient volume on full stroke to fully stroke the slave. If any of those are no then you'll know what needs fixed.
