Sylva Stylus

I’m finishing off a Stylus which has had at least two previous owner attempts.
It has a 1600 Ford crossflow with five speed type nine box and cable clutch.Question is which starter motor as I’m not sure what flywheel it has.It had a pre engaged fitted but noisy operation.Swapped for an old inertia which is quiet but has the annoying throw out whilst attempting to start. One is a ten tooth pinion the other is nine…which might explain the noise.
Is there an easy way to work it out, maybe through the starter mounting hole.Just be nice if a pre engaged would fit, work quietly and properly.
