Association of Racing Drivers Schools (ARDS)
Racingschools.com - Silverstone Racing SchoolThe Association of Racing Drivers Schools was set up as the regulatory body that would set and maintain appropriate standards of tuition and operational safety for Race Schools in the UK. Silverstone Racing School is a member of ARDS, and as well as our other product offerings, we are authorised to conduct ARDS Driven & Written Tests on behalf of the MSA (Motorsports Association).

The ARDS test is a necessity for anyone wishing to obtain an MSA Race National B competition licence, which is required to compete in any form of circuit racing in the UK. The National B licence will let you compete in the majority of club championships and after gaining six signatures you will be in a position to upgrade to a National A, which opens up further categories. In all there are a total of five “Race” licences available which are National A & B and International A, B & C. The event status of the championship or race you wish to compete in would be clearly defined in the relevant regulations.

The Basic ARDS Test consists of a safety briefing and outline of the course, watching the ARDS safety video, 15-20 minute driven assessment with instruction and multiple choice written test, the questions of which would be covered in the MSA Bluebook and Safety Video. For the whole ARDS procedure you will need to budget at the bare minimum approximately £315, which includes ARDS Test (£185), Go Racing Pack (£39), Medical (£50) and Licence Application (£40).

Before you take your ARDS Test there are two things that you need to do, the first is to purchase an MSA Go Racing Pack, which contains the competition licence application form, ARDS Video, MSA Bluebook and other useful information. These can be purchased direct from the MSA or from us. The second is to decide if you have enough experience and track time under your belt so that you can demonstrate safe and controlled circuit driving or whether you should opt for more tuition.

No not too bad, 10 laps in an MG ZR, 7 being instructed then 3 being assesed, followed by the written test , 17 questions in the first part(flags etc) of which you MUST get 17 correct, 8 questions in the second part of(track technique etc) which you need to get 6 correct.

if you watch the video you get in the MSA Go Racing pack a few times, the answers to all the questions are in there.
