Duratec clutch options confused.com

Hi everyone, im currently building a new engine which will rev to approx. 8k with a max of 260bhp. My problem is with clutches and flywheels. The car is a duratec powered MGB GT which gets mostly road use with occasional track time. Im currently using a fiesta st150 flywheel with standard pressure plate and early mondeo clutch plate. It works very well so im a bit cautious about getting a steel lightweight flywheel. I understand that the standard fiesta flywheel is quite strong but can be interchanged with earlier 220mm ford cvh/zetec clutches. I don't want to spend a fortune on clutch components but im worried that if I use standard components they wont be strong enough for the power.

Has anyone here used relatively standard components on higher power/revving duratecs? Can a cast flywheel take 8k?

Many thanks

Adam

Take a look at the helix website, I fitted a st150 cover plate with a 1.8 focus centre plate, both uprated you can mix and match to get the clutch diameter and splines right. (I was pairing with a mazda gearbox)

Not sure on youir spigot size, if its a 21 o/d I went for one of these..

Early Zetec will not fit.

I used a heavy duty Pinto friction plate from Burton Power and an uprated Ford
Escort RS turbo pressure plate onto ST150 flywheel. ARP bolts.

Using RWD pressure plate you may need to shorten the fingers to allow enough room for the thrust bearing guide tube

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016
