Maplin (RIP) alternatives?

Prompted entirely by HowardB mentioning Maplin on my other thread about a deadhard-drive, with with an eye on buying cheaply all sorts of little electrical gubbins for a whole range of things, are there any obvious alternatives to Maplin - or it is just about taking a punt on eBay or similar these days...?

RS components?

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Used to be, now surprisingly well priced. Definitely worth a go. And with their trade counters they are still a 'shop on the street'. Maybe not the high street, but still a shop.

Hi
I use Vehicle Wiring Products excellent service, good range of bits and normal post so not to expensive for carriage.
The connectors etc are always a little cheaper than the more general suppliers that we use.
Online or catalogue

Whilst i have accounts with both RS and Farnell, i used to also call into Maplin quite often...they were very handy for lots of bits and bobs.

Rapidonline and Kitronik were our useful sources of bits with occasional stuff from Mega

Rapidonline are good - it helps that they're based in the next town over (Colchester).
