Primer

Hi guys,

As I am welding up my chassis, I would like to use primer to cover the welds and help see what welds are left. Plus stop the chassis getting any sort of corrosion etc. What primer do you guys use?

I would hand brush the welds with etch primer as I went. When all welded, a good clean and paint the rest. Finish with a good chassis paint.

That was my plan. Hand prime welds etc. Then clean up, wire brush etc and then spray primer to get even coat. Then chassis paint

Some like to powder coat chassis, but I don't. Over the life of the car there will be times when you may want to add or change something involving welding, I like to be able to refinish alterations easily.

How does the link to the primer above seem?

Yes, I've used that. I would get the larger tin though.

Partial thread hijack...
After searching for chassis paint down to 2015 and not finding an answer to my question, I decided to ask on this thread as is a variation of the theme...
I am working again on my Locost after a loong hiatus, welding stuff here and there to a Prepped and painted chassis.
Paint used was a Red High Solids Epoxy Primer. primer is holding pretty wel except some chips and scratches that donŽt take away my sleep.
Whe I need to weld something, I just grind the primer and weld away.
I am getting to the point where I will be painting sections of chassis where I donŽt need to weld anymore in order to start affixing panels.

Considering the following:
- how well the primer has stood the test of time.
- And that IŽll be using a relatively cheap Alkyd Base Anticorrosive Coating,

Now the question:
What would be best before fitting panels; both options consider keying in the surfaces before applying sealant...?
- Paint tubes only where there will be no adhesive...
- Paint tubes fully...
Reasoning towards first option is that there is one coat less to fail if I apply adhesive on top of primer only.
Fire at will…
I am pretty much immune to bad critic and IŽll accept it gracefully.
Thanks in advance.
