Morning all,
Son's had his bike frame resprayed and there's overspray on the internal threads of the bottom bracket shell in the frame.
I need some effective and low cost paint stripper to clean it up.
What can people recommend please?
Already tried cleaning threads with a sharp scribe, but need the next level!
Dremel fitted with small wheel wire brush? Maybe with brass wires.

I've found brake fluid very effective on many paints. However if it's threads then I would have thought just a thread tap would be ideal.
could you use a thread chaser?
or a bolt with a slot cut in the side?
Take it to you local Bike shop and ask them to clean it with a thread cleaner, it will probably cost you but it is the correct way to do it.
In Wickes earlier and picked up some of their paint stripper. Will give it a go later using a toothbrush.
It's a large diameter thread and not one I have a tap for.
Trying to avoid bike shop spend - spent enough there already!

Its a professional only product, haven't seen it in anything but 5lt cans.
Took my 944 back to metal with it, 3 applications cleared 5+ coats of paint.

No success I'm afraid!
Maybe the bike shop rather than spend more time & money trying.
With the disappearing posts like above, any ideas what you may have done differently to the previous post - it hasn't affected me yet, but makes
threads hard to follow!
In regard to your problem, a dcm based stripper would work but is a professional only product.
If you had an old bottom bracket, you could cut a couple slots with a grinder at 90degrees to the thread to use like a tap.

Wickes paint stripper didn't work unfortunately.
Frame now at bike shop who have proper chasing tool.
Collect Friday with BB fitted.
My son will have to learn the hard way these things bring costs and problems!
Looks like it should now be fixed! ° are now allowed @#£__&-+())/!!!!!

Final update - the bike shop sorted it for £20 by chasing the frame bottom bracket thread. Bottom bracket now screws in/out smoothly by hand.
Lesson for all, if you're getting something blasted and painted/powder coated then really be careful with threads!
yep when coating, clean it up, and use silicone plugs in threads.
one other thought,
did you try nail varnish remover?
