Front bumper for SVA

Has anyone put on a front bumper to avoid the suspension being tested at the SVA? I was talking to someone about it at MK and i think they said that providing the bumper does not fowl the tyres then it should be ok and that would mean that the tester would not have to check all the nuts etc on the front suspension. Once the test is over then the bumper can be removed!

Anyone with further info or ideas????

I think that this is what DAX do with there 7 type car they use a wide mounting bar for the indicators and continue it across the front wheels as a bumper.It then becomes the front edge of the car, i am not sure of the exact position of excluded areas but suspect anything below it would be exempt as it becomes the floorline of the front of the car.

Yeah i wondered what that bar was for if not just for the indicators.

It's worth thinking about as it could save another trip to the test centre.

Give MAC#1 Motorsport a bell in Sheffield. They do this to the Indy's that they build for SVA and go through successfully.

What are the benefits of going this route,is it much extra work and what do you save on!
I know its a bit of a "thicko" question but please make allowances.

I passed SVA 2 weeks ago after fitting M14 nut covers to the track rod adjuster and M18 nut covers to the top suspension locknuts. The SVA inspector put me onto Westfield as a supplier after my phoning finger hurt chasing suppliers of the elusive items. Bits of foam are right out. See photos section.

Macca: As far as i can see it saves mucking about with making the front suspension SVA happy. If you use a bumper then the suspension will not be checked. Once the cae has passed you can whip off the bumper and away you go.

I was in the Caterham showroom today looking at what they have done in this area and aswell as plastic nut covers they also had some very neat rubber grommet type things that cover the track rod end adjuster nut. It was held on with 2 cable ties and looked very neat.

Those neat covers for the track rod ends.. a cheaper way as im sure caterhan will charge an arm and a leg!!... electrical junction boxes, prob 3phase stuff for the larger diameter, anyway, where the cable goes into the junction box/ switch gear it passes through a tapered plastic sleve which will do the job of track rod end cover as its hard plastic so will not deform on impact! duno if will be ok for SVA but gota be worth a go!!

Looks like a very simple idea that could save on a lot of grief, and you don't see that very often. Is the bar in the nosecone part of the setup?
