Pre-IVA Photos

After a week off working in a boiling garage I think I am just about there. Going to make a start on the paperwork this week so thought it would be a good idea to post a few photos up here. Would be great if you could have a look through and see if you can spot anything that needs attention. Jobs still to do are :-
Trim headlight lower ring
Fit under dash covers
set headlight alignment.
Make some covers to go over upper seatbelt mounts

All advise gratefully received

Cheers

Dave

Need to remove windscreen wiper switch as you have none fitted

Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

Really? Is that not like having extra harness mounts but failing cos you've fitted 3 point belts...

Looks very tidy indeed

The base of the headlight might need a bit of trim if you can get there with the knee shape thing.(the very bottom of the fitting)

I'm sure you have but make sure the foglight is vertical.

I dont think you will have a problem with the wiper switch being on the stalk. My friend left it in place and was fine, however may be down to the inspector so i would be ready to remove it whilst you are at the test in case thats it.

Do you have enough clearance around steering gaiters when suspension is at extremes. Looks a bit tight but could be the angle of the pic. I'm struggling to find anything, tidy build

Thanks for having a look every and for the compliments.

I will keep a hacksaw blade handy for the iva in case the inspector has an issue with the wiper stalk.

Headlight Trim is on the to do list.

Steering gaiters is an interesting one, at the moment they clear, just .... Think I might get the nibbler out to be safe.

I guess it comes down the 'not cause the driver confusion' interpretation

And I suspect a tester could think if you have the switch there, you might be intending to fit a windscreen later, but just didnt want it tested (because you'd have to fit heaters, washers etc) sort of a bit like fitting lights, but not actually having them wired up, makes a bit of suspiscion?

Otherwise looks tidy. Are those gaiters on the wishbones clamped on? Clamps might make them look a bit more permanant

yep - I was thinking down to 'you will be going to fit a windscreen then.....'

IIRC you can unscrew the back of the sierra stalks and remove the one in question with out damaging anything... maybe do that now upfront if you have the time.

cheers, Chris

Thanks for all the advice everyone.

I've bought another set of stalks for the wipers so I have a spare for future and I will cut off the current stalk just in case.

The gaiters on the wishbones are ziptied in place with some black ties, they are tight enough that I cannot slide them along the tube.

The fibreglass is all from Saturn Sports Cars who are sadly no longer trading however I believe the moulds have passed on to another company but cannot remember who at the moment.

Thanks again

Dave

Front flexi brake lines look like they might touch the wheels on full lock. This might just be perspective in the pictures though.

Just a brief update on progress.

Finished trimming the front headlights. I also wasn't happy with the adjustment nut being right up inside the mount, meaning I had to disconnect the wiring and use a deep ring spanner. Made a spacer so the nut is lower down and I can use an open ended spanner to get to it.Then used some rubber cable gland covers to cover everything.

I've also cut the wiper stalk off and glued the end of a cable gland over it.

Found a bit of trimming I had missed .... the nut on the bottom of the centre mirror!

Currently finishing off the vinyl on the covers to go under the dash.

And Mrs M is making sewing up some covers to go over the upper seatbelt mounts.

Had a mild panic today when I realised the drivers side headlight seem to have no beam pattern. Unit was exactly the same as the passenger side so stripped it and found the bulb wasn't seated properly. Re-seated and beam pattern came back - phew

Hopefully will get a few hours with the manual tomorrow and check all the detail again.

Having submitted my iva forms 3 weeks ago i've been chasing vosa through the week, forms were passed to local test centre on Monday and they said to ring back today if I hadn't heard anything.

So rang back today and after being passed back and forth for about 15 min they eventually put me through to the test centre as they were not allowed to give me the direct number. Spoke to a very nice lady who explained that a guy called Bob Stafford does the tests and that he organises all the tests and paperwork so would need to speak to him. Only problem is he is very busy doing tests and rarely in the office so she gave me his mobile number Slightly worried when his number had 666 in it! Gave him a ring and had a nice chat.he explained how busy he was and that earliest possible date would probably be around 2nd week of sept He even asked what day I would like, when I said any he cheekily replied 'is the right answer'.

Feel a lot more relaxed after chatting with him and in his own words next time I speak to him will be to give me my test date.
