blacktop zetec reversed water pump

Hi all

I'm at the moment trying to get some reversed pumps and impeller's manufactured which is fine,

what I do need is someone who can draw me a 3D cad drawing of the water pump pulley with the 6PK belt ribs on it, anyone who can help me? cad's like trying to talk Martian to me!!

I'm offering a free pulley and pump for the work! that is of course if the project comes to fruition.

also I've made a alternator mounting for the exhaust side which I'll try and get drawn an post on here.

Hi there, there is a guy on Ebay that sells them for £80 ish which may be easier than starting from scratch. Search "zetec water pump"

Around £95 with postage

Standard pulley is a 6pk so how are people running these already ? I can't help with the cad but I would love to learn some day.

How would a change to 5pk help, I cant imagine space being that tight in a 7 bay with zetec. Even in the notoriously small striker theres plenty of room.
Also, the outer pulley is not part of the impeller, so no need for them to be designed together.

I'm using one of the new crate engines in my build and want to make the belt route simple

if my scheme comes off my impellers will workout at around £20 and the pump complete will be around £55 and their brand new!!
if your using a used engine surely you'd want to replace the pump?

Sorry I meant 6PK doh and the original pump pulley runs on the back of the belt so it's smooth and the earlier escort pulley's have 4 bolt holes. and I wasn't asking for the impeller to be in the design that's already been done by my manufacturer, I'm now looking for a manufacturer to make the pulley.

Sorry, I misread your post, I thought you wanted both designed.
In which case, I can draw that up for you. DO you have the diameter? If not I will measure mine at weekend.

diameter is 104.5mm according to my verynier gauge. although this is not critical as a little more would make it an under drive pulley which in some cases would be desirable

Pulley guide dims are fixed (3.56mm centres). Il just need the mounting offset and bolt hole pcd etc, which again, I can measure up at weekend. My engine is on a stand so will be easy to do.

I'm now at the stage where my quality control company in china are inspecting the factory so hopefully production of the pumps and impellers can start next week.
that means that they should ship out in around 40 days plus 20 to 25 days shipping
it would be good to get the pulleys at around the same time.

I'm watching this with much interest! £95 each is way too expensive! You'd be cheaper buying an idler pulley kit. If the price was more competitive, then I'd go for the reversed impellor, keeping the standard belt configuration every time!

From experiance may I offer a word of warning.

Reverse water pump impellors offer lower flow rates the standard due the water having to make a 180 deg turn in the pump itself.

The water is spin by the pump orginally into or out of the spiral casting (can't recall which way) on the back of the pump in the image above. Reversing the impellor itself goes against this spiral.

On my ST170 build, reverting back to a idle pulley arrangement we cured a hot running problem we had with high revs/low speed running (sprints)

Thought I'd try to save you some time and money, unless your willing to get the water pump housing itself recast with a reversed spiral housing on the back?

yes I know where your coming from have had a look at that and a friend at an engineering college is looking into improving the flow rate by reworking the original casting ( it's off my engine so I hope it works!) I'm a long way from throwing money at it yet but I'm hoping its going to be viable.
I don't think there's to much of a problem with normal road use but if anyone has any info that would help it would be much appreciated.
your the first person I've heard of with this problem is there anyone else????
were you using the machined one from I K engineering?

We tried to use a double pass rad before we figured out what was the issue, we knew something wasn't right as the cooling fan was running more often than not even in winter.

I got mine from Quicksilver in the USA, they run it or used to on formula Altantic engines. If you have a spare housing i'd try blending the reverse radius out to see how much you could get away with. we needed a quick solition at the time and it kinda stayed.

Quick question, was it only the Silvertop where you had the choice of waterpumps off different cars to have different belt directions?

Yes that is correct, there are oem reverse options on the silvertop. Also the blacktop pump bares little external resemblance to the one scutter pictured, which I assume is an st170 version.

The picture of the water pump show the rear face as it shows a little of the scroll, it also houses the timing belt guides whish is why it's looks a little funny.

Trust me it's the same as this one.
