Type 9 Poor Selection
Hi all.
Although the actual gearbox works fine, I have a problem with selecting gears with my type 9.
It all seems vague / imprecise, also when selecting first, it is very easy to land up in reverse.
It has been like this for some time, I have just lived with it, but would now like to get it fixed, as the car will be going up for sale soon.
Is this a common fault / wearing part?
Cheers Carl

Possibly the saddle at the base of the gear lever worn or even broken . If it’s not available locally to you Burtonpower do list them at around a
fiver, also do a heavy duty item for about £20

As Mel has said - the bottom end of the gearstick has a metal fork that pushes the end of the gearbox selector shaft around. On the gearbox selector
shaft's lever there is a black metal and nylon 'thing' called a saddle that cushions the gearlever fork. This works OK for many
years but does eventually wear out.
Just unbolt the gearstick, look into the hole and you should see the saddle right in front of you - it may be covered in grease (it should be). It
pulls off vertically, and the new one can easily be pushed in its place.
It's a simple thing to check before taking the lid off the gearbox and trying to fix something more serious - and you really don't want to
do that unless you're really confident with gearboxes!

OK cheers guys.
Part is out of stock at Burtonpower, so will try an ebay one £13.
Fingers crossed it fixes it so simply!

If you get stuck it might be worth giving BGH Geartech a ring?

Ford dealers may be able to get you one, my last one came from there.
Phoned the local ramblers club today, but the bloke who answered just
went on and on.
