Exhaust.
I've now got to the point of sorting out the exhaust. Ti*er and W*****d both sell systems for their Zetec cars but not sure if they fit, but at £350
and £450 they are looking good value compared with the quotes I am getting of £650 ish for custom build! Thats £450 for manifold and pipe and £200 for
silencer.
Has anyone fitted either of these? Or any ideas who may be able to make me one. Would prefer someone in the South but could tow car almost anywhere.

I have just phoned MK to do me some Zetec engine mounts all because i found an ad in a Kit car mag for brand new zetec 1.6 engines for £375.
My question is this, would there be any probs fitting a type 9 gearbox to this engine?
Also if you are able, could you let me know where to drill the holes for the engine mounts on the chassis.

Donut,
that sounds interesting for the price. Do they come with all the electric gubbins, and any ancillary bits? Any idea what sort of BHP a 1.6 zetec in
standard trim would give out? And I assume MK could build me a chassis designed to take a zetec engine, so I wouldn't have to adapt it? Would also
like to know the answer to your gearbox question.

The engine comes without anything! I asume its a block with sump, head, cam belts and maybe an alternator if you are lucky. But it is brand spanky
new. All the ancileries can be bought from a decent brakers.
BHP; well the 1.8 on twin webers does about 150bhp at the flywheel so i recon a 1.6 would be about 125bhp...ish. (anyone know for sure?)
MK do the engine mounts for the zetec so it should slip straight in. I'm trying to find out from 'zetec' on this board to see if any mods need to
be done on the chassis so i'll get back to you on that one. Westfields have zetec engines so hopefully all should be cool.
I think i'm right in thinking that the type 9 sierra gearbox fit's straight onto the zetec without an adaptor which is cool.

the box will bolt straight on to the engine,clutch will be mix n match,dont forget spigot bearing.

Donut,
No probs if engine is without walter pump etc as I had to change this on my used engine.
You will need a water pump off a rs1800 fiesta (I think 89-92 ish) and groved pulley, pump from local motor factors and pulley from breakers/Ford.
Short sump, DIY or from Zetec engine tuners.
MK engine mounts. If they are a copy of the ones I sent Martin they seem to fit fine! Martin can weld some longer chassis plates on to aid fitting.
Coil pack from breakers (no dizzy to worry about).
Alternator from breakers and either home made bracket ( I have a Ford Mondeo bracket if anyone wants it as a starting point) or aftermarket one for
about £90.
Type 9 or MT75 'box is straight bolt on.
The biggest expense is carbs/injection and ECU. Carb + ECU kit about £1000 or Throttle bodies about £1500.
Lots of bits like carbs etc you would need for Pinto if you go that route so cost not as bad as you think, and lots of power potential for future,
suspect 150-160 bhp with head/cams and very reliable.

Incidently does the zetec sump have to be altered / chopped for more ground clearence? The 1.8 on "A Racing Car Is Born" looks like the bottom of
the sump is in line with the bottom of the rubber mounts that sit on the chassis.

Martin's doing me a wide tunnel for the MT75 box, the sump is an altered escort type ( your local tec collage will probably weld it for a small
donation! remember you will need baffels ) I've got a new zetec 1.8 see photo section as for clutch/flywheel I'm going on a hunt to the scrap yard.
But If that's no good Burtons do a light steel flywheel to use pinto clutch
not sure about the throttle bodys yet might try to turn/mill my own! I'll get back to you on that! (should be picking my Indy Kit up in 2-3 weeks
Can't wait!!!!)

Forgot to mention the exhaust, have you asked Martin at MK who did his one off's for him! The black car that was being built last time I was there
had some lovely stainless pipework on it!

That black car had an exhaust that was made by a friend of Martins specially for the Indy and i was told that they can be made to order. Can't
remember the price but i think it was £350 but DON'T quote me kn that, i may be wrong.

I'm going up to a guy near MK (who does their Pinto exhaust)next week with the car on a trailer and he's going to custom make a system. He does the
Pinto exhaust with the pipes over the top chassis rail, I've asked him to do the more normal method with the primary pipes coming out below the top
chassis rail, he says no probs.
Bit of a pain taking car all the way up the M1 but he does come recomended by MK and he is good on price. I suspect he will be able to onward sell
more systems to MK as fitting Zetecs gets more popular. I'll let you know how I get on.

Just noticed all this stuff about zetecs in here. Don't normally look here coz I am not building an MK, so any chance that occasionally you guys
could post helpful stuff about engines in the Engines section!

Got my exhaust made a few weeks ago now by the guy who does the MK Pinto one (he does loads for other kit/production cars also). Best to call his
mobile 07966249869. It's all s/steel apart from the manifold flange, has a repackable silencer and SVA style tailpipe. It goes under the top chassis
rail as 4 pipes and them goes to a 4-1 collector. He has made a very good job of it and all for £350! He did take a pattern so doing another should be
easy. The only thing I will need to do is shorten the silencer slightly once the rear wing if fitted, looks easy enough. Send me a u2u if you want a
picture via email, or post a response.

When I asked him about it he said that he did'nt, and said that the silencer was normally OK as it had the fibre wadding to stop heat transfer, it's
the manifold/pipe that are the problem. I have seen Birkin fit a shield over the whole system, but looks a bit naff. Good reason for fitting a Zetec
as the silencer is on the passenger side!
