Exhaust routing

I know on the Avon the exhaust generally goes under the top chassis rail and through the body work. Is there any reason why it can't exit over the top rail. Haven't actually measured the exhaust port height relative to the top rail yet so that may be an issue. Any thoughts? Zetec btw.
Thanks, Ian

This is very common, and preferred for not restricting air flow.

My chassis has an over chassis exhaust.
