wishbone 'eyes' shorter than susp. bracket

The wishbone pivot ends in the book are 32mm, but the suspension brackets are 40mm across.

What is the best way to takeup the 8mm float?

I assume that we don't want the wishbone ends sliding forward and back!!?

The brackets will compress to less than 40mm when you do up the nut + bolt. If there are gaps left then thick imperial washers are your gap-removing friend!!
Seems strange but true- I can't believe how many washers went into my Stuart Taylor to remove gaps due to wide brackets / narrow ends!!!
Seems to work fine, just make sure you put the put the washers equally on both sides (ie make sure the wishbone on the offside aren't pushed forwards whilst the nearside are pushed back....)..

Bushes?

Not sure of the book design (been a long time since i read it!) but you would normally use poly bushes in each end of the wishbone pivot tubes. They should take up the extra 8mm.

Yes that is how i read it.The bushes should be wider than the bone pivots.I would not recommend letting the chassis brackets be pulled in with the bolts, use equal sized wasers if necessary either side of bushes.

Good point- assumed the 32mm included the bushes!! Foolish assumption!!

WRT narrowing of the bracket when tightened I just mean so that the sides were parallel to the bush edge. The brackets often arrive slightly \\_/ and tightening them up makes them go to ¦_¦ if you see what I mean.... whereas if you over tighten them they go )_(

I had loads of trouble with these....

Basically my tubes were too short for the poly bushes supplied and weren't even cut straight!

With the bushes suitably cut down and fitted there was play in the bracket which I took up with a large diameter washer.

Have a look here:

I had to cut the polly bushes to the same length as the liner, and then added one washer to take up the slack...

Thanks
