oil sump question
hi everybody,
after talking to some people on this forum about my oil sump im begining to question what oil sump I actually need.
i have a silver top 2 litre zetec engine and I am making an Avon. Can anyone suggest what oil sump I need to give the ground clearance!?
I have an offer for a 1.8 litre zetec engine although I am now concerned that this is what I have already. Im now thinking i need a modified sump or
lower profile sump rather than just a different engines sump? is this right or am I go crossed eyed.

Scholar engines and Dunnell engines around £200 exchange.
If your flush then there is the Race line sump at over £400.

There are two standard sumps for the silver top zetec. The Mondeo and the Escort/Fiesta/Orion
The latter is the shortest.

I have a 1.8 Zetec (not fitted yet) the bloke I bought it from threw in a 1.8 CVH tin sump.
After doing some research, it looks like the tin sump fits the Zetec, only needing a bit of "persuasion" with a hammer to clear the oil
pump and 2 extra holes drilling and tapping in the block.
The CVH sump is a good couple of inches shorter than the standard 1.8 Zetec sump, and if you need more clearance, it'll be easier to weld than
the ally version 
Pictures are HERE they're chopping the sump so it'll avoid the crossmember
on a MK2 Escort, but you get the gist 
Edited to add; If you do get a CVH sump, make sure you get the 2 "strengthening" strips, they go under the sump and the bolts go through
the strips and the sump "sandwiching" it and making it a fair bit stiffer.
Oh, and grab the oil pickup pipe from the CVH too, it bolts straight into place on the Zetec, supposedly

2 litre sump
Hello James
The sump i have spare is a 2 litre series 1 silver top,its deffinatly not worth you having as it is far too deep for the avon.
I would have a measure up with the engine up against the gearbox and bolted onto the mounts,see how much clearance you have or need and if you only
need 35/40mm more try and find a 1600/1800 escort zetec sump.
schollar engineering is the normal choice if you need more off the bottom but at a price,and as said earlier the cvh sump can be altered to fit and
its easier to find someone to mig weld steel than it is to tig weld an ali sump.
Here is a picture of a silvertop zetec sump from a 2 litre, and i'll follow it up with zetecs 2 litre sump which has been altered and bolted to
an MT75 box.

Jees for £50 a sump I,d sit there all day chopping off the bottom, welding in a flat plate and moving the bung !
If the second picture is £200 worth they are taking the P@@@.
What's the pick up look like ?

CVH Sump
If using the CVH sump then get th pick up pipe. It needs slight tweaking but otherwise as a straight fit.
You need to drill 4 holes (2 front, 2 back) in the ally covers not the block. The flywheel needs to be off to do this well.
I shortened the steel sump to 6 inches from block face and it now sits level with the bottom of the bellhousing. Obviously the pipe was shortened to
match.

i'll try to put the photos on this weekend but Im pretty sure the sump I have is pretty or makes little difference the same as what Bob has.
Just got off the phone to tiger and they have the corrected sumps for 200 quid.

Not saying anything against tiger BUT I strongly recomend spending your money with Scholar or Dunnell
I have done a cvh sump conversion aswell.

If you want it welded you can post to me, I was just making a general comment that if anyone has a sump and can get it to me I,ll weld it up.
Being BEC its of little interest to me.
