Oil temp R1
Murphy - 15/1/12 at 08:52 PM

I have an oil temp gauge with sender and T peice. Where on the R1 1999/2000 model do I put this? Also with the water temp gauge where do I put the sender bits?

Sorry I have very little know how here.

Cheers all.

On that engine you've really only got a couple of options for an accurate oil temp reading, you can either tap into the sump or use a sandwich plate on the filter. I ended up using a sandwich plate with a small filter which had tap offs for oil temp and pressure as in pic below:

For the water temp I used an inline adapter you can just see above the carbs

Thanks

I was thinking sump but the plate idea is really good. Would this be an eBay job.

Yeah it was one of these:

I did have to file a fair bit off around the circumference to get it to fit.

I have an oil temp gauge to put on but what other gauge on oil is most important?

The other take off is for oil pressure, I would say along with water temp the most important gauges to have.

On the sandwich plate I had to file off so much I only have the inner rub er seal between he plate. Will that be OK.

Mine was the same, I,ve had it running for an hour or so with no issues. I cant see it being an issue as long as the 1 seal is in good shape.

Fitted it today and ran it for 1/2 hour no issues.

Game on! Just need some good weather.
