Oil cooler position and hose making
Barker - 12/3/03 at 11:39 AM

Has anyone made up their own oil cooler pipes.?

I need slightly longer ones to get the cooler to the side pod for air flow.
I take it everyone else is putting their coolers up front [mine is mid engine.]

second-hand - £46
New - £52

Demon T***Ts sell the fittings but don't make the hoses up - does anyone know if crimping is essential - i.e. can you make you own using several hose clips???

Appreciate oil leek could be terminal
????

so u do need one then, i would not trust hose clips on somthing that coulod cause terminal damage to the engine, iv'e seen it done and they have been fine, but i would'nt,

maybe you could try rally design, they seem very fair on prices, but i bet you could get them made locally, just look in yellow pages for "hose suppliers" the guys who go out to service JCB's ect, they will make one offs, they do it all the time on site, we use a company local who do owt we want, overbraid, shrink sleeve the works, it would be cheaper to go to them thought rather than them come to you, the last place i worked we had our own tools for the job so any local engineering firm may help too, its suprising how many firms have the tackle to do this in house for breakdown cover ect.........

just look for local "hydraulic hose" companys in the phone book.........

hope this gives you a start at least.

Give Think Automotive a shot, they'll supply hoses and fittings or made up hoses of any length/size, good service too, will be able to advise on the best fittings to use in your situation

Just about everyone these days sell the push-on fittings. They're a really neat, tidy design, and are rated at the same burst pressure as the hose! Bonus: they're relativly inexpensive. I'm pretty sure they're made by Aeroquip, but Demon Thieves et al will stock them.
