cleaning visor

Morning all

Hope you all had a good weekend and managed to enjoy the sunshine.

Managed to get out in the car yesterday and returned peering through multiple bug bodies on the visor of my helmet.

Not having owned a lid before I wondered whats the best thing to clean the visor with? last thing I want is to give it a wipe with something and if cracks/ruins the visor.

Cheers
Nigel

I just use Spit and a micro fibre cloth.
It works for me. (Dampen / soften the bugs with water / spit before removing)

I keep a microfibre cloth tucked down the side fo the seat so I can wipe the visor if it rains (happens to me a lot!), or if I get a bugs on it.

I would not use strong detergents, just something that wont attack the plastic.
Fairy liquid or simmilar.
I am wary of glass cleaners as they are for glass which is more resillent than plastic visors.

Minor scratches can be polished out with abrasive paste. I used Boat Pride acrylic window polishing compound, but only as I had some. I think Farclea compounds can be used, but check they are OK on plastics first.

best thing to do with the visor is wet a sheet of kitchen roll and lay it over the visor and leave it there, keep the kitchen roll wet until after a while the bugs will just wipe off, be gentle with the visor as they easily scratch, if there are a few stubborn bugs take visor off the lid and run warm water over it and again gently wipe the bugs off.
tip... spit is the best free way of keeping the inside of the visor from misting up.

I use washing up liquid and warm water, let it dry then put some RainX on. For the odd bug before then next big clean, just a bit of water and kitchen towel.

Or you can use cling film before you go out and remove it when you get back

I take mine off, and wash it with hot water and my finger tips. Chances are, the lid needs a clean as well, and some warm water wont hurt this either.

The best option is a pinlock system and tear-offs. You can just remove the tear off.

Kindest Regards,

I just spray mine with Pledge and rub it with a cloth, it cleans and polishes at the same time. I do all the helmet with it as well.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

A belt sander will shift the really stubborn dried on bugs.

Mr Angry Grinder didn't work for me, so I use this stuff:

Shift It

Very good at shifting bugs off the visor and helmet, leaves the visor bright and sparkly with no sign of scratching or hazing over.

About £3 for a tiny spray bottle, but it lasts for ages (you don't use much for each clean-up).
