Instruments
I'm just in the process of ripping my donor vehicle to bits and had a few questions regarding paperwork. I've declared the car sorn and I'm
waiting for the reply from the DVLA. Last week I pulled the instument's out of the dash, and it occured to me, what do I do with the odometer? I plan
to get a new speedo eventualy. Do I transfer the clock reading from this to the new one? Do I need to register this milage with anyone?
Any help would be apreciated.

dont matter at all
your car will be classed as being built from old parts.
I does not need to have a recognised identity so you can set anythign to anything yer like as long as it meets sva.

I have heard that if you use the donor gearbox, diff, wheels and speedo they don't bother to check the accuracy of the speedo at SVA! And even if
they do, it's likely to be right.
Worth doing? You can always change them afterwards.

I think that's unlikely Northy. When you go for the SVA your car will be run up on the speed rollers as matter of routine and checks made every
10mph. A printout is then produced of actual versus shown readings. You can show a bit over but none under actual speed.
The examiner only wants to know the origin of the engine and won't ask (other than for general interests sake) about the rest of the running gear.
That said if all the parts went together on the original car you are unlikely to have a problem.
I ran with an RS2000 gearbox, 1600 Escort diff, XR3i wheels and Dolly Sprint instruments and mine was spot on!

I started trying to reset the odo to zero by connecting an electric drill but soon realised it would take some time! - eventually by a bit of
persuasion managed to turn the tumblers individually back to zero.
Unless you know the history of your donor you've no real way of knowing whether the odo is even close to the actual mileage - my blue donor turned
out to have the front right quarter of a brown car welded into it.
