Figure this out

It seems that every time i sort one welding problem out another shows up
I have sorted out most of my welding problems.
Anyway, i bought some argon/CO2 gas last tuesday and managed to get my welds looking and sounding good. I was just about to sort out the amount of penitration and discovered my gas regulator wasnt working. I went to halfrauds yesterday and bought the only one they had. Fitted it and went to use it today and it worked fine for the first ten minutes then i had no gas. I unscrewed the regulator and pushed the valve in on the gas bottle with a screwdriver and nothing came out. I dont believe i ran out of gas in about an hours use. The only thing i can think of is that i left the gas on last night because my old one had numbers so i knew what setting to put it on and this one doesnt. I have now gone three weeks having done nothing to my car and its getting realy annoying
Oh well thats life

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

My last bottle emptied in a day. I think you are better to unscrew it each time you stop.

These bottles don't last long but I think you must also had a leak also, which empties the bottle in no time.

Use soapy water on the next one and when your not using it either turn off the regulator if you can or turn the gas down as much as you can

Cheers
David

BOC ??

Have you tried contacting your local BOC trade centre to enquire about the cost of short term hire of an Agoshield bottle.
Perhaps a size Y bottle would suit you best.

Halfords bottles do not last for very long, in the long run the cost of a large number of bottles tend to add up to a lot of money

I take on the odd outside job or two each year, this more than covers my annual rental, gas & wire costs.

Air products charge for hire of bottle by the day so you can always take it back when you are done and get another next time, though having a big bottle all the time makes life easy. Air products also do bottles with built in regulators so you don't need to buy or maintain them.

Check the valve on top of the bottle. They are in two halves and the top brass section tends to unscrew when you turn the valve. This means that next time you screw the valve top down, the internal pin does not reach the bottle valve.
