Hi folks, joined on Monday, bought this yesterday :

Think I'm having a mid-life crisis (well that's pushing it, I'm an old f@rt really)

Norfolkluegojnr - 8/4/16 at 07:40 AM

Welcome

Mash - 8/4/16 at 07:41 AM

Should say that the seller says it has all of this stuff:

2.0l silvertop zetec engine
New cam belt
New filters
R6 carbs
Pipercross air filter
4 into 1 exhaust manifold
New water pump
New water pump pulley
Independent rear suspension
Polybush joints
Track rods and ends
All rose joints (x18)
Braided brake hoses
Rebuilt calipers
Wilwood brake cylinder
Brake system flush
Coilovers all round
Corbeau bucket seats
Rollcage
4 point harnesses
Alloys x5

Sierra type 9 gear box

Good news is that it seemed very cheap
Bad news, it needs an IVA etc.

Welcome aboard and seriously - mid life crisis - there's worse things you could do

Looks good and I'm sure fun to own and tinker with.

ENJOY!

Oh dear

Hoping you didn't pay what it 'says' the Ebay auction ended on?

Big,big job you've got with this if your plan is to get it IVA'ED!

Mash - 8/4/16 at 09:04 AM

Unfortunately yes I did, fools and their money eh

Agreed. We were commenting on a handful of quite obscure pictures, it might not be as bad as you think. It might be a bit more work than expected to get it roadworthy, but there's still a lot of satisfaction to be had in tidying it up.

And you're still infinitely further along than I am, mine is still one up from being a collection of metal bits!!

nick205 - 8/4/16 at 10:00 AM

Either way you'll have fun with it and as above you could spend your time and money in much worse ways - in my opinion!

Mash - 8/4/16 at 10:17 AM

It was on ebay, but I haven't paid or collected it yet. Thinking I might try and get out of it as I don't think it really lives up to his statement:

"This car has been at a classic and sports mechanical restoration garage in Ipswich finishing this project as I haven't had time.
The following bits have been professionally fitted with receipts to prove"

Don't know what my chances are, but I don't fancy forking out another £200 or so going to pick it up on top of what it costs

theduck - 8/4/16 at 10:26 AM

Personally I would try and get out of it. Even worth the negative feedback in my most honest opinion.

sdh2903 - 8/4/16 at 10:30 AM

Unless your up for a complete strip and re weld as some of those welds are terrible (and I'm a crap welder). I would keep your money firmly in your pocket

thanks guys

Told him I'm not buying, and he's annoyed, but I may have got away with it. Fingers crossed

Norfolkluegojnr - 8/4/16 at 11:07 AM

Let him be annoyed - the ad was very misleading.

Let everyone on here know what you are after, and what your budget is, and we may be able to point you towards a decent alternative

Crikey - my heart sank when I saw the first post - I recognised those rear stays on the roll hoop straightaway!

I refrained from posting on the other thread (I am not generally keen on taking a view on others sales without having seen things in the flesh) - but shared the views on the welds that were pictured.

I think you've done the best thing to pull out - if I were to buy that car i'd be expecting to strip it completely, and effectively start from scratch again - at which point I'd think - why not just start with a bare chassis then?

Thanks again guys.

This guy was definitely a chancer, but I should have been more careful. Trouble is, I don't have huge amounts of cash, so it was really tempting and from the photos and description seemed like a bargain.

I'll keep looking, any Locost/MK 7 style would suit me, but I doubt I'll find much for my 4k limit

Westfield project here for 3k;

theduck - 9/4/16 at 07:54 AM

You can get a lot of car for your budget. I built mine for less!

Mash - 9/4/16 at 03:35 PM

Thanks Guys.

Had a member send me details of his car, within my budget, bit of a project, well within my capabilities, but in Rotherham so a bit of a trek to look at from here, and I'm loathe to go through that again.....

Looked at the Westfield too, that's very similar, but in Blackpool

Still, at least it proves you're right, they are out there

slingshot2000 - 9/4/16 at 04:04 PM

Why don't you ask if there is a member on here, close to either of those, who would be willing to go and have a look at them for you. You may even get someone to take some decent photographs and forward them to you. There are some decent blokes on here and I am sure someone will be willing to help out a fellow Locoster. If either were close to me, I would have a look at them for you, but both are a bit of a trek for me, too.
Just a thought.

nero1701 - 9/4/16 at 04:13 PM

If you find anything in the SE London area, I'd be happy to go have a look for you.

Mash - 19/5/16 at 06:00 PM

Thank for all your advice and encouragement folks

Found a pretty reasonable MK Indy, a bit outside my budget, and needs some tidying up but worth it.

Picked it up this morning, and once I work out how to post pictures, I'll put some in the MK folder.
