Mx5 steering rack

Having just gotten myself a free v-spec mk1 mx5 1600 as a donor car i am starting to really pile on the research prior to starting my build, with the steering rack from the mx5 i have seen a few people have had them shortened when fitting them into a "locost". I know there may be a few different plans kicking about but do the mx5 racks fit acceptably in the book chassis (tmxr chassis flat pack to be ordered) or are people using escort racks? I'm not adverse to using a ford part but they cost money when i already have a steering rack to use that was free

Cheers for any input

Tom

please forgive me Im just learning

I thought even the mx5 variant of the roadster still used the mk2 escort rack ?

I'm fairly sure all the plan variants maintain the front width, even with a move to mx5 donor. Hence the choice of chopping the donor rack or using a standard Escort rack.
