creating a bigger fuel tank?

Does anyone know if theres a way to increase fuel tank size by adding a header tank? Theres no room to get a bigger tank in so my thought was to add another tank higher up that links into the original. The header will be gravity fed as the lower tank will house the pump. Any ideas or suggestions? Its just an idea at the moment to see if its do able

What's the aim? Could you just carry a plastic 5l or metal 10 / 20l tank?

Carrying a gerry can is do able but not the safest. The aim is to make a bigger tank to make the car more useable on the road and potentially doubling the range between fill ups

Lose some of the boot and build it upwards?

This doesn't sound particularly safe but.... Get two extra fittings onto the top of the tank. Ideally one bigger than the other. Connect using fuel safe pipe the bigger to the bottom of the new tank and the smaller to the topk. Replace existing tank vent with bung. Add vent to new tank.

I'd guess the two new pipes need to be 25mm and 8mm. Hopefully fuel will naturally godown 25mm and air will escape via 8mm. You could do 8mm and 8mm but think how long it will take to fill up both tanks to full.
