FOG LIGHT
Ian Pearson - 8/8/03 at 07:56 AM

Thought I posted this last night, so apologies if it's under another topic somewhere!

Does the fog light have to be wired up to come on only when the headlights are on? I've wired it up independently at the moment, but noticed that in my VW it's wired through the headlights.

Regards, Ian.

I thought that originally - but on my Toyota Yaris it can work as soon as the sidelights are on!

According to the SVA tester when I went years ago it should only work with dip beam, but modern cars seem to be wired so it comes on with dip and stays on with main, which would have failed then. It should not work with sidelights only.

I am sure that my Rover 800 can have rear fog lights on with just side lights. In foggy conditions, good front fog lights are better than dipped beam, so used in conjunction with side lights and a rear fog light this would make sense - but then I just said sense not SVA

I think you are talking about the rear fog light........?

I have wired mine with a relay so it only comes on with headlights. Thats my understanding. Having it go off when you switch to main beams dont make sense - does that make the car more visible from behind in fog............
