when I l look up the number plate on
https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
it is shown as a magenta

Warning If you've just bought this vehicle the tax or SORN doesn't come with it. You'll need to tax it before driving it.
Vehicle make: MAGENTA

note, you don't now need to know the make to look cars up via

just the number plate, and it then shows make and colour, and a confirm button to give the rest of the info

I asked the seller wtf was going on with the 'MR2' and this was his reply:
Hi, log book states that it is a MR2. I took it to DVLA and they told me that because it had so many original parts that it was not a major drama to register it under a new identity. They subsequently closed my DVLA office and I had since MOT`d the vehicle under its VIN number and not the registration. Apparently this is common with import vehicles which have not been UK registered yet. I then drove the car for two years. I hope that this clears the matter up. Any further questions then please ask.
Regards
Paul

So, you can simply build whatever you want and as long as you use enough original bits, you can just screw the donors number plates on and off you go......
