Fiesta master Cylinder?
Kelvin - 4/2/03 at 09:46 AM

Hi All,

I have been offered a new Fiesta non-servo master cylinder for beer money.

The differences between the Fiesta and the Escort master cylinder are that the Fiesta variant has 4 outlets compared to the Escorts 3(?). The Fiesta uses a seperate pipe to each wheel.

i was wondering what the downsides were to using this in the following fashion.

Front wheels have seperate pipes as usual.

Rear wheels served by single pipe, split at the rear, as per using an Escort cylinder.

The fourth outlet used for a pressure switch a la Austin mini.

Anybody got any thoughts on this one?

many thanks,

Kelvin

Hi Kelvin,

The Fiesta had 2 M10x1 outlet ports, and 2 M12x1 ports. Check the thread on your proposed pressure switch, because you will need one of the rear M10 ports to connect up to the rear brakes. Most importantly, ensure that this switch assy seals against the cone seat of the outlet port.

Also, the Mk2 Escort mcyl was an earlier design, known as a TVCV tandem (Tipping Valve, Centre Valve). The Fiesta non-servo mcyl used the more generally-accepted ASAS (American Standard). This was the use of lip seals sliding past radially located cut-off ports, to initiate pressure generation.

BTW - one more difference; the Escort mcyl was set up for F/R split, whereas the Fiesta was an X-split, or diagonally connected brake system.

Thnaks for that Dick.

Guess I'll leave it!

Kelvin,

Don't misunderstand me; the Fiesta mcyl could be suitable for the Locost. Just bear in mind that the mcyl volume split will be closer to 50/50 (as opposed to 60/40 for F/R brake circuits).

Hi Dick,

Good point. Guess I could use it and put a bias valve in line to the rear.

Have to have a think.

Cheers,
