I've sort of decided I want a Terrano estate.
Fourth car so occasional commute, tow truck, muddy dog transport and they sseem to stay in good shape compaed to some others and there are a few
available in my intended price range for another toy (up to £2000)
Looked at a couple and narrowly missed one I'd seen on Ebay, but had concerns about being shill bidded so dropped out.
Before I persue any others, do you have any other nuggets of (preffereably positive) advice or info on these?
Or know of one going for sale?

shame your not local you could have had mine for a grand.
mines only had a few faults, the engine wiring loom broke causing problems also one of the freewheeling hubs locked up causing problems when in 2wd so
i took the hub bit off and drove in 2wd for a while.
in case you havent realised the ford maverick is a rebadged terrano.
oh and mine had a new head b4 i bought it
apparently the 27td is also used in london taxis but i cant confirm this.
you can adjust the front ride height with a couple of spanners
cant think of much else but as with any 4wd drive it in 4wd before you buy it

I had a friend had one as a tow car istr him saying that it was a curse to work on as lack of access meant that even relatively minor jobs involved engine and gearbox removal.
Ive used both LWB & SWB at work -
Very tail happy in the damp, will suit you, maybe not your wife though...You need to think about it
Off road the swb was good, the lwb was still capable. Engines were strong, pulled well. Gearboxes were notchy and precise, brakes good.
Like all 4x4s a bit roly on the bends.
And like you I notice they are very good value for money, lot of reliable truck for not much cash. My mate used to off road his family LWB , and Ive
seen where he got it, and it was no slouch on decent tyres.
Our job ones had a few clutches, but that was about it. I would have one ....
We had a lwb 3.0 tdi which is a better engine in the family for 80k and it's was fine reliable but rugged and basic compare to others at the time
Not to be makist at all, but exacty that.
Compared to all the others they seem really good value for decent spec long life deisels and apart from wings and neglect the bodywork seem to hold up
well.
I don't like the Maverick trim quite so much (or the fadey Ford red!), but have not discounted them.
Leather would be good auto a possibility.Not planning on going round corners or anywhere that fast to keep the fuel cost down but it's not for
racing just tootling

£4500 buys a lot of Terrano
I've worked on a few & I think they're better than their price/image would suggest.
We have seen though when used for heavy towing 4th gear can let go, I've seen 3 do it but I'm talking about ones that see use on farms
towing cattle trailers or horseboxes etc. Not something to put you off, just see if you can weigh up if it's done much towing & have a go in
it to see if the gearbox is OK. Every alternative you could consider has a weakness that some bar-room expert will tell you will cost you a fortune
& how you should have bought whatever else instead!
I've not seen anything that's of much concern otherwise, they do seem to resist rust as well as any other 4x4 & not all that bad to
drive apart from the SWB does pitch about a bit much mabye.
Had I the need for such a vehicle the value they seem to offer would see one on my short list.
I'd heard about the pitching, its definatly a 7 seater I'm look at so not an issue.
Graboxes aside, really looking for older but lower mileage and decent clean inside rather than the newest, els Mrs reman will not be happy, she wants
to play too

As is ever the case i've come across an older one one in seemingly very good condition
BUT
Its a petrol with 100k on it?
Any fresh opinion?
My Saab is at 125k so it's not just me being mileagist but some last better than others
I was reaally thinking a bus like this is more suited to deisel?
