Sucking Power!

Take your mind out of the gutter!

We need a new hoover as the old Dyson has finally stopped sucking. Big bang lots of smoke!

I was comparing the DC25 (£199) and the DC50 (£299) Dyson's at Argos that are both on offer.

The DC25 is cheaper and has 80 more airwatts (suction power) than the DC50.

What am i missing.. Why is the newer more expensive hoover on paper worse than the old one? I cannot see why the DC50 is more expensive other than its the new model and snobbery!

Why are you looking at another Dyson ? You can buy something that does the job just as well for a third of the price.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Isn't it because the DC50 is 'compact' - double radial cyclone or something and smaller.

I worked as a Odd Job Man for 8 years, usually tidied up with customers vacuum. I have to report that Dysons were a triumph of marketing over reality. 8/10 there was something wrong with them and the ergonomics of use were pish. Just my opinion of course!

Apparently we live in a democratic house.... when she decided we do!

Is that just a guy on ebay or is that a genuine Dyson outlet? Those Dysons are only coming with a 2yrs warranty its 5yrs if its new.

I like Dysons, i know there are cheaper brands out there... just sticking to what i know.

I think you're correct, it is just the newer more compact model the DC50 and some new fancy tech to boost the price.

I cannot believe this hoover as taken sooo much thinking about!

If you like your Dyson How about contacting them for a service? £75 (I think) got me new brush bar, hose, wand, wand and filters. Basically a new machine....now running better than it had for two or three years
The engineer we had reckoned the 'old ones' were much better put together than the more recent models.

At my local council recycling tip Dysons out number any other vacuums by at least 4 to 1.

Justt buy a £50 Vax and get a new shiney one when the old one looks grubby.
The cheaper Vax models don't feel high quality but they could suck for Britain.

We use a Henry, it's pretty much indestructable. I have sucked up all sorts of unpleasantness, and all it needed was a replacement bag.

However, I have also been told that Dysons can be easily reconditioned/repaired, with only a finite number of parts that need replacing. So all those people who bin them when they go faulty (and as BT said, there are a lot!!) it would be so much better to get them repaired.

interested in this as our Dyson (bought at half price about 5 years ago), has been brilliant but is a bit tired now and our new dog is twice as hairy as the last one!
The "Which" report is quite good apparantly, I dont know if anyone here has access to it?

The best vacuum I have ever bought is a Dewalt, I doubt you will get any brownie points from SWINBO tho.

Get yourself down to curries (If they still exist) and have a look at all the vacuum cleaners and have a play with them then see which one has the best sale price. Your not likely to get a good deal on a Dyson because everyone wants them so they don't need to discount them.

Personally, if you want to get a 'decent' (Read good name) model, I'd go for a Hoover or a Mielle (The later if you've got pets) but personally I'd get the cheapest one I thought I'd get away with, especially if it had a decent warrantee.

Sorry but i'll never touch one, I think they are overpriced for what they are....

my wife has a dyson dc07 which is about 10 years old. a few years ago the motor packed up. a dyson engineer came out for about
£75 as some one above mentioned, fitted a new motor and a few other bits and its as good as new.

we had two dysons they were shit. we now have a miele cat and dog, its is easily more than twice as powerful as the dysons.

p.s i have a henry in the garage and the miele is even more powerful than that. in fact the miele is so powerful it lifts the carpet up, but its fine as there is a dial to reduce the power if needed

I made the purchase.

Went for the D25 in the end. Before popping to Argos I went into Currys/PC World.

The DC25 was the same price there as Argos and their tools were 1/2 price. The sales guy was helpful without trying to just bullsh1t me after i asked him some sensible yet informed questions. So i decided to spend my cash there.

It has the standard 5 yrs warranty, so by my logic I wont have to pay out for the next 5 years. Then it will get the £75ish service.

PS i never knew blokes could talk for 3 pages about House Hold Vacs :-D

Thanks

Ash
