First day on the road!! Good, the bad and the noisy diff!!

Well, let's start with the good-

Got an email from DVLA this morning to say I was road legal and good to go, oh and I don't have to MOT again for 3yrs!!
So out I went and OMG this thing is quick!! It spins up everywhere in 2nd even on the dry sticky roads today and then it proceeds to pull your face off in 3rd!! Just bonkers!! Gearing is great now with the new 3.14 diff seeing just 3500rpm at 75mph.

Then came the bad-

After a few miles the diff started to scream like I' had a straight cut box!!
My 3.62 diff was fine before when I went for the IVA. I've used the LSD diff from that c/w its bearings and bearing holders. I then bolted on the 3.14 crownwheel. I used the 3.14 pinion and its casing and fitted a new seal, bearing feels and sounds OK on this tbh. I set up the backlash and preloaded the side bearings as per the Ford manual.
I suspect the problem can only be the pinion bearings but I don't have the tools to strip this. Anyone have these? Or know a company (preferably local to Barnsley) that does? I'm limited for time as there's a Blyton trackday looming!!

Think I might just throw the 3.62 back together for now, which is a shame as I've put a lot of time and effort to get the 3.14 in there

Was it oil specifically for limited slip diffs though??

I had mine converted to a 3.38,but got a ex Brooklyn Ford tech to do the job as I wasn't confident and he had done loads back in the day of the Cosworths

You don't need it in Sierra LSD's

Just been comparing the pinions on the 2 diffs. The noisy 3.14 one feels like it has no preload and spins far too freely for my liking even though it feels smooth enough. Wonder if this is the issue? I'd like to strip it to inspect the bearings 'reclaim' the crush spacer and see if I can get some preload on it, but I can't do any of this without some suitable tools

I know when reassembling a Triumph diff that the backlash is halved if using used bearings as opposed to new.

Gonna try a couple of local transmission specialists to see if they have the tools to strip the pinion shaft to inspect and set it up. If not the 3.62 will be going back in tonight and get the 3.14 sorted later. Shame, but time and money are at a premium at the moment

Do you have a complete 3.6 diff? If not I have one you can have, it was being used behind the 3litre Jag engine until I fitted the 3.3.
It's an open diff, push in shafts.

Well, it's knackered!!
Just took it along to M&T TRANSMISSIONS in Sheffield and straight away they noticed water damage to both the crownwheel and pinion which has caused pitting to the drive surfaces. They've declared it completely unusable and I'm gutted at all the time and effort I've put into this swap.

This is common, don't know why. As if they have been stood in water
I had to go through 4 diffs before I found one not water damaged! There is a definite line at the water level.
I think the water damage is above the oil level if the diff has been unused for a long time.
This one was working ok, just a bit of whine.

Yeah probably condensation I guess but they were 100% sure this CWP was totally unusable
Hopefully a full refund won't be an issue as it was an LCB member that seemed spot on.
