Time to sell?

Mot for first time in 4 years. Owner of test station so impressed he wants to buy it. Finding it very difficult to put a value on it as so few come up for sale

I was in the same situation as you with regard to putting a value on a Viento. Its hard not to be emotional if you built it and except that you will never get back what you spent.
Here is my add.

I thing on reflection it was overpriced but its so hard to let it go. However I did accept an offer of 11k from a buyer in Europe but as he's yet to visit i'ts still for sale.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for that
I think given the spec yours looks right to me at 11k
The guy who mot tested mine jumped in at 6 to 7k
Looking at other stuff on ebay I think it might be worth a bit more but who knows. Ebay listing prices can be wildly optimistic. I would like to work out a realistic price as I don't really want to put it on auction as it can be too much agro.

Other than the soundtrack, a standardish 3.5 RV8 doesn't offer that much more in terms of performance compared with a itb zetec. I would price on the same level as a zetec engined kit, circa £7k. -£8k. Tonneau, decent seats, brakes, and a decent diff, (3.14lsd) may add a little, as may a windscreen.

I would sell the 4.2 separately, you should get hood money for it as they are more rev'able and have a strong crank compared to other RV8 versions.

Rover 3.5 engine is no power house but with the fuel injection, megasquirt engine management, Hurricane cam, Thor inlet manifold its the huge torque that makes this nothing like any zetec powered carto drive. Not saying its better just that its completely different.
Thanks for the input on value think I'm getting a better idea of what to expect.

More or less the same spec as my Viento, mines a 3.9 with 14cux injection and plenum, hurricane cam and megasquirt. Circa 200-210bhp. As you say a different driving experience. Ditching it for a 4.6 with ACT induction kit, Merlin heads and omex should see off the zetecs then.

All the best with the sale.

If I'm chasing Nash in his Indy, rev limit goes out the window! In reality probably no more than 5500, even then it's shaking itself apart! In normal use not much more than 4K through the gears and economy motorway driving, 2.5k @70mph.

Fitting roller rockers and decent lifters along with a Newman cam to the new engine which should be ok to 6000rpm.

Hi Mike,
Just checked the printout for the V8 Developments engine.
Max torque 300 at 4500 rpm
Max hp 285 at 5800
hard cut set at 6000 rpm
See you Sunday

On a mission now, Viento has its new MOT and is taxed. Been to the workshop and checked the spare v8. Its a 4.6 not 4.2, how could I have forgot. If I don't sell the car I might still stick the 4.6 in over the winter just for the crack. I assume everything will transfer straight over from the 3.5 so should be a pretty straight forward switch unless someone knows different.
One of the reasons I've not used the car much was a clunky rear diff which I thought was on the way out. Whilst the car was on the ramp I checked what was causing the noise. Turned out it was a loose diff mounting bolt. Nipped it back up. Result.

Hi Steve, im completely new to the kit scene, and wouldn't have a clue how to value yours or any other, but I paid 9k for my Viento last November.
Bear in mind that it's the only 7 style kit that someone who's 6'6" plus can fit in, and suddenly it's an incredibly rare car! I bought the first one I'd seen for sale in 3 months of hunting for one after learning of the viento's existence and going off your pics, yours has to be a couple of grand more than mine at least!
