Quick rack or alternative?

Noticed on track day that we needed to do a lot of hand over hand steering and so figured a quick rack could be useful. Does it make an appreciable difference for track driving or is there a better alternative?

If it's an escort rack then yes it's your best / easiest option to swap it for a quick rack. They're cheaply and readily available in various ratios, 2.9, 2.4 and 2.2 IIRC. If it's something else then you'l need to do a bit more research.

Yes. Other option is shorter / cut down steering arms, depending on which uprights you have.

Just make sure it is quick, i.e. mm/turn is higher. Some "quick racks" are not, they are just shorter!!

Make sure the length of the rack is the same as the existing one, to ensure you don't get bump steer. Wise to investigate and understand bump steer before investing in a new rack..

excellent - thanks all. I think it is the escort one, so had hoped for a like for like replacement. However when I search for them, some things are coming up that look like replacing only the rack and pinion elements like this:

2.2 Quick Rack

Am i wrong about that?

Measure the rack length, yours may already be shorted (I would expect this to reduce bump steer, but this depends on the suspension design). You might have to get a machine shop to shorten the rack in the linky...
