7" Headlamp Options
ttalps2000 - 4/12/17 at 12:18 PM

I need to get some new 7" mini style headlamps as the image break-point on one of them is quite blurry and failed iva on it!

Currently have Wipac Quadoptic units, but not very inclined to use them again!

Can anyone recommend other brands and places they have got them from with good results?

Thanks

I used the crystal clear ones on my old Landy and am totally delighted with the result, look very modern, very clear, much brighter than before (standard bulbs) and the beam pattern is super defined, one of the best I've seen even compared to modern cars. Highly recommend them.

btw these are so much better than the lamps you had as I had those too and replaced them for exactly the same reason. I think the problem is the glass lens pattern is not very sharply moulded so the light is not focussed properly. With the mirror at the back it is very angular and sharply moulded in the plastic and so much more precisely focused.

do they have sidelights?

Another vote for crystal clear ones, available with or without side lights.

check that the bulb is seated correctly.

if getting new ones, I would get the ones with sidelights, even if you are not using them now, just keeps options open

upon finding the units with side lights, they are "Europe and USA" which means British American, so need European type! Any helpers other than Paddock Spares?

Bulb was seated correctly, even put a new bulb in. Made a tiny difference, but nothing significant.

The passenger side unit focus' as it should do!

minispares do some polycarbonate ones
http://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Electrics/Lamps/S6072.aspx
no idea how good they are, but they claim they are E marked.

rimmerbrothers do a large range too
https://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-GRID600207 (scroll page down for the list)
but indicate the crystal ones are no longer available ;-(

Could you still use the sealed beam type for the IVA?

I still have Lucas sealed beam units on the SII LR, seem to work well (at least for the MoT). Obviates the need to concern yourself with getting the right bulb position within the unit?
