Rover V8 + webber 500 Plumbing

Hiya,

Been somewhat steadily working on the car and I think I am nearly there with the engine plumbing etc.



I think everythings about right except that on the rear of the webber 500 (right of pic with a bit of masking tape on it) there is a small tube coming stright from the carb. Anyone have a clue?

The vacuum advance outlet on the carb (left side, small black hose) I think goes to the port of the megajolt junior lite. Can anyone confirm this?

If anyone can spot any other mistakes I'd be grateful if you would point them out.

Its on the secondary butterflies, I would just block it.

Vacumn advance would typically be on the other side with the primary butterflies.

Take-off for a brake servo? (yeah I know you won't have one. )
Will be able to tell you for sure, soon as I'm starting to plumb in the same set-up in my Cob.

Can't help with your q, but would recommend that you remove the long tube that the oil filler cap goes into, it's the same thread in rocker cover, so screw cap into that instead. Also, I made a flattish take off for the spark arrester thing (other rocker cover) and have mine laid down and out of the way.

Thats the take of for the MANIFOLD AIR PRESSURE sensor if you are using a Megajolt with a MAP sensor or Megasquirt.


100% certain of that as Its my old manifold.

I have the same carb on my Daimler Hemi V8. It looks like the servo outlet. I have a manual in PDF format if you U2U me your email I will send the file, or I think you can download it.

I Will have to look back at some of my pics but It looks to me ? Or i seem to recall the two vac ports on the front of the carb were for dizzy advance ( two types of dizzy possible so two types of ports out ) ---- You can not use these for a MAP take of point due to the way the carb works at when idelling ( gives a false MAP reading )

So the other port on the rear of the carb is used for the MAP sensor because it gives a smooth MAP reading.

I will have a look back at my pics just to check.

Its the take off for a brake servo, there's a similar port on the opposite side for the crankcase breather if required.

One port is timed by the butterfly and cuts the vac advance at idle but the other is constant vacuum and can be used for a map sensor take off.

True the second port can be used for a MAP sensor BUT when looking at the data logs I found the other vac ( at rear ) out let gave a better / smoother vac reeding.


But it makes little difference.

so just block this port off and make sure you have used the correct port at the front of the carb.

If you dont have a grub screw to fit the outlet I may still have one.

Just block them both .The mega jolt goes on the left one.
where did you get your throttle cable from?

I'll just do what you did and use the rear port for the MAP sensor. It works better that way anyway - shorter pipe. I'll just cap of the front fittings. However when you sold the carb to me the one of the front outlets had a pipe connected to it (the left side as you look at the engine from the nose). If you used the rear for the MAP then what did you use the front left for?

Throttle cable came from Car Builder Solutions but I have seen them cheaper on a certain auction website. Just search for blue throttle cable.

thankyou but I have a paper copy of the manual. In the exploded diagram that outlet isn't shown

Just checked in the box my new carb came in and in a instuction supplement it says that this port is for power brakes (plug if not used).

I still had the main body of the dizzy so left it connected to the dizzy vac advance as I was too lazy to block it off, even thought the dizzy was no longer in use.
