Fibre

At last the 21st century is coming to my sleepy North Essex village.

A zillion trillion giggaknashers per nanosecond of info due to be rolled out in July. Pre sign and no connection fees.

Obviously it will cut down my tea drinking as I normally make another cuppa while the next page loads. I can live with that.

p.s. Where's a good place to sell copper wire ?

Awesome...!

We have fibre in our new place - the only thing that works out here literally in the middle of a field - and I can't say I'm disappointed with 150Mb down /50Mb up

You can have my 0.65 when I've finished with it.

As they say in Tesco's, "every little helps"

My broadband is absolutely guff. 1 screen max at any one time of any kind of video (netflix/youtube etc on main TV, PC or laptop)

That said, I started with a 28.8k dial up modem so it still seems fast. I think if I didn't have that background I'd have thrown my PC into the local brook by now. The funniest thing is the BT boxes around the village all say "Fibre is here!" with moss growing on the adverts. Erm, no it isn't.

At our old house we had a miserable 5mbps connection until about a month before we sold our house when got fibre to the property and had a massive 300+mbps download and 100+mbps upload.

New house we have good ol' fibre to the cabinet and get about 40down 8up

out here the best I can get in the middle of the county town is ~40MB down and 8Mb up (fiber to cabinet)
(and thats the upgrade from the 12MB/1MB we had before....)

on the other hand my mum was only getting 0.1MB just over the hill - she finally managed to get the openreach guys to look into it (after several years) only for them to find she didn't have a cabinet at all, just a direct copper wire all the way to the exchange in the village 3.5 miles away
even the openreach guys couldn't believe it was still like that - probably neve changed since the 1920's when the house was built !
