Panther - garage/maintenance near Leeds

Hi all,

First post and a bit of a request.

Can anyone recommend a garage near Leeds that can fix a few final niggles on my GTS?

I know a number of garages for more standard vehicles, just need to get it into someone who knows 7's.

In the meantime, only fair I put up a photo of the ever developing little blue rocket.....

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the forum

depending on what the niggles are might well be worth travelling a little further to get the right garage...

Sorry I can't help you much when it comes to garages near Leeds, but maybe with a few more details of the spec of the car and the issues your having we can guide you to the right specialists or better yet tell you how to fix it yourself for alot less ££ (this is locostbuilders after all )

Aha - that helps, thanks.

Final niggles are pretty small:
1. Minor fuel leak - but this should be fixed by new seals in the throttle bodies
2. Wheel arch bracket - needs re-welding
3. Speedo - doesn't work, new sensor and bracket fitted

The first two I can do, just need to order the seals from Jenvey and get it over to a local garage to re-weld the arch bracket.

The speedo however is driving me nuts!

Spec is a GTS running 2.0 Blacktop Zetec, with Emerald ECU and Jenvey throttle bodies, Gaz adjustables and larger rear hoop.

Any help very welcome!

What kind of speedo & sensor have you got just now ?

the little glued on magnet ones can be a real PITA (but they are cheap and easy to fit)

the HAL effect ones that sense bolt heads or toothed wheels are meant to be better (as long as the bracket is solid enough not to vibrate at speed) - these are more or less the same as the OE ones for most ABS and engine speed sensors

alternatively you can get ones that drive from the old fashioned mechanical speedo outlet on the gearbox (if your gearbox has one) - these seem to be ok too, but cost a little more normally

Ok, this is really helpful.

I've got a Revotech Speedo, and originally I had the sensor that needed the glued on magnets to the propshaft bolts. This worked well until I was having a rather spirited drive over the Buttertubs and the magnets came off over a couple of bumps.

I've fitted the HAL effect one, however I haven't managed to get it to work so far.

I'm thinking a replacement sensor, check the wiring and a much more solid bracket to resolve.

Sounds like a plan

that sounds like exactly the same issue most folk have with these eventually, it is possible to stick the magnets better but hard to guarantee they'll really stay on permanently

If you get a sensor with a built in LED its easier to check that its getting a signal (like the ones ETB sell linky )

the general rule for all the HAL effect sensors is to get within 1mm of the teeth / bolt heads your sensing using a bracket solid enough to minimise any vibration

Thanks for the link, new sensor ordered this morning

The original bracket was a single angled strip of ally, I'll definitely follow the one in the photo, as I'd imagine it will be significantly more stable.

Cheers all!
