plumbing brakes on dedion axle

Silly question i'm susre, with the dedion axle do you plumb the brake lines the same as you would on a live xle car ie flexi from above dif on chassis to solid line on axle?

thanks,

Ned.

Seems logical to me Ned!

The hubs and therfore calipers or cylinders don't move in relation to the De Dion tube do they. It will save on flexi-hoses and the overall no. of joints in the system, which can only be a good thing.

The Sierra rear calipers DO move in relation to the hub. There is only one piston in the caliper and the piston housing has to slide to bring the outboard pad into contact with the disc.

Fitting a solid pipe will reduce rear brake effectiveness (handbrake as well) and could lead to brake failure if the solid pipe cracks due to flexing/fatigue.

If you fit rear calipers you must use a small flexi-pipe between the De-Dion tube and the rear calipers.

Drum brakes don't need this flexi-pipe and will be fine with solid pipes.

Ned,

would you beleive that Caterham haven't thought of it either!

Their rear caliper cars leave the factory with solid pipes to the rear calipers.
