Clocking isn't illegal and can be done for legitimate issues such as second hand clocks or new dash clocks into a car.
What is illegal is misrepresenting a cars miles once it's been clocked. So legal to clock - not legal to sell and not inform seller.

Yeah right for the the ten in a million legitimate corrections (usually by main deallers) there are 999,999 wide boys who want to lop
40,000miles off an 80,000 mile E46 to double the value.

What? Is that an admission I'm right or just another rant?

speeding's illegal, yet we're all capable of it. its what you do with the tools available. as said, plenty of legitimate uses.
and what should the mileage actually belong to? thew chassis? the engine? the clocks?
I've got a ~90,000 mile enigne, in a chassis of unknown milage, with all the suspension of also unknown milage, same with gear box, new prop,
new half shafts, and a speedometer which shows 0 miles. is that essentially clocking? or is it right becuase the speedo is new?

From your comments it would seem either you are a total innocent look at the world through rose tinted glasses or you like to make a fast buck by
fair means or foul.
I my long experience those who use the word bullshite are rarely the the kind who look at the world through rose tinted glasses.
The one of the most common forms of clocking is where a first owner with a high end car less than 3 years old but with a an above average mile mileage
gets it "adjusted" down to average miles before chopping it in for a new car, even if detected this is almost unprovable.

Just because it isn't stealing pension books off grannies doesn't mean it is victimless, in fact for the rest of the vehicles life
everytime it changes hands after having its "mileage adjusted" the new owner suffers a loss, how would you like if avehicle suffered an
apparently premature cam belt failure because some bright spark after a fast buck had wiped 30k off the clock.
The worst case I ever saw was many years ago an immaculate car that having serviced it from its PDI I knew had over 98,000 miles under its'
belt reappeared with a new owner and just over 38,000 miles on the odometer.

Yeah sorry about that mate, it was not my intention to participate in drawing this off-topic in any way. It's just that when someone acts like a
total keyboard warrior from up on high, it tends to get my goat. There are plenty of legitimate reasons why a clock is reset, so to use such
black-and-white terms like above, is just sensationalistic. Strangely enough, not unlike some of his other posts!
I had the clocks reset that I bought for my '06 plated kitcar as I couldn't get a set of new clocks to go with my new chassis and new
engine that I bought................

It was so obvious this post would turn to s**t
Let the guy sell his kit, it does more then mileage correction aswell, and its not illegal to correct mileage.
Just because the tool can be used to break the law so can every day things like the car your about to get in, shall I nick you for speeding now then??
Shall I arrest myself for murder because I have 3 guns??
Seriously guys we are all adults and know what it can be used for, its unfortunate that in this case the majority use it for illegal purposes but why
kill the guys advert when he has done nothing wrong.

You're right, the "dickheads" who don't have a point and resort to personal insults/namecalling.
Luckily we don't have many on here, in fact, in this thread there's only one so far..
We don't need these kinds of posts on this forum

Some of the discussion here highlights a problem often encountered when i am asked by family to check out a car. on any “modern“ car ( post 1980 )
mileage is an almost useless assessment of a cars condition it is the number of cold starts that should be considered. not something that is easy to
find out. When i worked as a mechanic we bought a fleet of ex reps cars (cavaliers) all at about 100k miles and one car at 6000 miles that belonged to
an old lady that car was the one that everyone wanted to buy, and we had it back in our workshop more often than most of the staff! the car was
returned so often we traded it off site to another dealer it was an absolute dog.....pretty but so unreliable. the ex reps cars only showed up for
servicing and mot‘s. anyone who buys a car based on mostly the mileage is looking to get ripped off and almost deserves what they get.
sometimes you are the pigeon, most of the time the statue.
