Most stabilisers regulate at 10V, a 3 terminal regulator from RS components and two resistors will do the same job.

Woah woah woah back up chaps - what the application and do you want an off-the-shelf answer or to build the circuit.

You want a lot more than a simple voltage reg and caps/resistors if it's going in an automotive environment - the spikes and dips you see on car circuitry are brutal.

Ordinarily your advice is excellent but these regulators have very good common mode rejection of noise provided you put in a couple of caps. They can also stand 60V on the input if selected correctly.

In the absence of more detail from the OP, I think were enjoying playing "20 questions" or should we say answers!

So do you need a voltage regulator to go with a dynamo?

Think this is what you want:- Semiconductor Voltage Stabilizer- TR4 TR5 TR6 Dolomite
Works great and much better than the original Smiths effort which reduced / regulated voltage by a vibrating bimetallic strip I use one with my Dolomite gauges.
