what grade wet and try to use to polish aluminium

I want to remove the milling marks from the face of some aluminium pistons (they won't be used as pistons again)
What grit of wet and dry should i be starting with and then finishing with prior o polishing?

Cheers

If there are no major scores/scratches then 1200/2000 should be fine, then a cutting compound like G3/4 or tcut.
