THE Dependable LIST

HI all

just sitting here having my egg on toast for breakfast and was contemplating my near 40 years in industry .
Ive been round the block a few times and had a very varied career , and over the years have tried many companies products.
" oooh errr misses " .
and thought it would a wise thing to start a list of the companies that you can always rely on , ie there products work although they might be expensive. so I start the list please add. you know the sort of thing , brought the good stuff thought that was expensive , tried 26 alternative cheaper products , then come to the conclusion " I know now why that product was expensive , it worked "

THE GOOD LIST

3M - comment tried the rest always come back to 3M their products just work full stop.

Araldite - comment as per above .

Evo Stick

Panasonic - Their components out last the Chinese 20 time's easy.

WD40 - need I say more

Facom - well above the pile !

Sony - still make good stuff

Minolta , Canon - thought id group that one together

Hilti - Their tools are expensive , but by XXXX they work.

Dulux ( professional range ) Does what it says on the tin .

Fairy Liquid - The green stuff

THE WAS GOOD LIST NOW ON THE SLIDE DOWN HILL.

Snap -off , had to be careful there was tariff stuff now sadly on the slide down a steep slope

Marks and Suspender's - Not all but there is a lot of cheap tat crept in

Feel free to add or comment , this was just what I could think of as my last fork full slid down. I know there are loads more.

Nice call....

Some of my favourites:-

Armorall Protectorant - keeps vinyl, rubber, plastic, door and boot seals conditioned.

Q20 - mega lube, penetrant and protectorant - also useful as a cleaner. Unlike WD40 not water soluble 'innit Chris?

Bike Chain lube - keeps nuts, bolts, washers and body parts rust free and lubricated - creeps into places you could never imagine! Buy from Toolstation.
However the best ever penetrating "oil" for rusty nuts and bolts - candle wax - rub on , heat up and it penetrates like nothing else.

Having been through all the usual cheap, nasty and some not so cheap power tools Makita are my current fave.

JB Weld deserves a mention - dragged me out of the sh*t a few times.

Finally stop spending huge wongas on engine oil etc. and look at these guys.
Their 5w-40 fully synth is c.£52 for 20 litres (thats approx. 5 oil changes for most cars) or (almost unbelievably) £2.60/litre!

HTH
Cheers, Pewe.

Good reply

I was thinking more along the lines of BRANDS

with the thought you know when you by something of there's its got a 99.99% chance of working first time and doing exactly what they say it does. so rather than a single product ( I know I said WD-40 single product ) its more everything they do they do well.

I will add a few

SHELL

Valvoline

FORD - here comes the flack - helmet on ! controversial that one , but think about it

BIRO

FLUKE - anyone who knows who these are and uses there products I am sure will agree.

more for the WAS good list , on the slide

MK not the kit car - electrical products used to be the best now !!!!!!!!

GOOD

BOC Argoshield MIG shielding gas - always works well for me.

GT85 - an aerosol spray I've always had good results with.

Sellotape - lots of brands out there, but genuine Sellotape just seems to work best for me.

Plastikote - an aerosol paint I've had good results with. I usually try and heat it dry over an electric heater if I can.

BAD

Too many to list individually really. They usually just go in the bin and are added to my don't bother again list. Oh, hold on a minute, just thought of one...

Erbauer - power tools that seem a bargain, but usually give poor results and need parts (blades) specific to the brand.

Bart mentioned "Hilti". Don't have any myself, but a local builder I've used a few times now has a van full and swears by them.

Bosch - I often find their things are slightly better than the cheaper brands. Not sure how long this will hold out for though as I'm sure they're looking to cut costs like everyone else.

Controversial one here -

FIAT

Not the first car you would think of but I have had two versions of the Megane, Alfa 156, Ford Focus, fiesta, escort, Sierra, Citroen ax, metro and a load more beside but my latest car, a fiat bravo is by far the most reliable and cheapest to run. Bought with 9k on the clock, 6 1/2 year later, it now has 162k and the only non service item (including brakes and tyres) is an exhaust back box at the last service and it dies 60mpg every tank.

Warp Speed Scottie!

Ok , need to relook at the list gents / ladies.
It's not "one" good product it's consistency of products.
So you know perhaps before any one else has brought one it's a pretty safe bet that it will be good cause everything else they make has been good.

I agree with the welder suggestions . Could also add hobart and cloos . Add in SEW for electric motor gear boxes.
One to ponder ?? Honda ???? Was on list but not sure if should still be there.
