WTD: a couple of small CF engine parts
Hi guys,
Im fitting a vauxhall redtop to my Dax Rush and I'm currently looking at having some wet lay carbon fibre fabbed up for the arches and side
panels.
I was wondering if anyone had experience with composites and would be able to produce some wet lay CF replacements for my spark plug cover (the iconic
L plate from the C20XE) and cambelt cover (looks a bit like the body of a volin).

Take care getting the correct shape of cambelt cover, there are 2 depending on the idler setup.
I thought carbonmods did both of plug cover and cambelt cover, but can't see it on their website.

If you end up getting a custom cambelt cover done, try and get holes in it for the cam pulleys so you can adjust their timing without taking the cover
off. If you're going to be using it for track days however, may be an idea to get little removable covers for these holes so gravel
doesn't get in. (just black rivnuts and a CF circle would be fine, put them on for trackdays).

I have seen quite a few redtop engines in cars with carbon plug covers etc on so they must be available.

to make your own, you would need to make a mould. If you simply took a splash off the existing part, the visible surface would be rough and the part
would be oversized. If this is not an issue, then drop me a U2U.

Could you get some of that very thin carbon (not looky likey but the realstuff) film/sheet and stick it on? Not quite the same as a full replacement,
but it would still look good and would be a lot less than 350 beer tokens.
According to this thread pawgrp can do c/f, or could in September 2006 
These guys sell it C/f+ glass 1.4mm thick at 29p/square inch (so I calculate a piece about A4 size would be
£28)
EDIT: just found
this on the bay of e... for carbon fibre
effect it looks not bad, better than the Halfrauds silver rectangles on a grey background stuff, anyway

Although I know I'm going cheapo with wet lay, I still dont want to resort to CF effect vinyl.
The link to the CF sheet seller could be useful if I make a mould and DIY it..
That pawgrp thread has a post from the old owner of my car..I wonder what he was after?
