Internet access problem

If I have signal strength of 'excellent' why can I only connect with 'limited access', which means I can't connect at all!

The two responses are looking at different things, they don't affect each other. You can have it the other way round, your signal strength can be one bar and yet you still have full access.

My first step in fixing a limited access issue would be to reboot the wireless router. My Sky router gets it roughly once a week nowadays.

I'm at work in Basingstoke and our internet access is at snails pace right now. I'm about to try and connect my laptop via my phone and see if it's any quicker!

On a mobile?
Depends on what signal type, a high E or G signal wont be as good as low 4g signal for connection speed, only good for voice calls etc

I am guessing this is a windows machine using wifi.
limited access means it could not get an address, or the router isn't seeing the outside world.
turn your machine off and on again. if that doesn't work, do the same to the router.
ps always better to use a wired connection if practical.

even if its not practical in the long run - try using a wire

if works well wired - then you know its a wifi issue

if it still doesn't work then you know its a router / broadband issue.... (my money is on this)

Access speed seems back up to speed now - our IT guru thinks it may have been our network downloading and applying MS updates
