Is my battery realy dead?

Put my car away yesterday without realising I had left the lights on ( used as DRLs ). Flat battery this morning unsurprisingly. It is a PowerVamp 25 ( Rebadged Odessy 680? ). Although it is 5 years old it has always appeared very healthy and will restart the car easily after a month of inactivity. It now reads 4 volts and will not accept charge from my 'intelligent' charger. Is the charger not that intelligent or is the battery dead?

Battery maintenance chargers don't like dealing with flat batteries so I'd say it's that and not the battery

I'd put a non-intelligent charger on it for a bit to get a bit of juice in to it and then swap back. Some of the intelligent ones won't charge it if it's completely flat

Just hook it up to a live battery/car for 10 minutes. Then try again.

or jump start it, then run for a few minutes, then the intelligent charger should be clever enough.

normally they don't like charging below a few volts, to ensure they are connected, not 'shorted' or the incorrect polarity

You might be lucky with a re-charge
but in the longterm PC680's don't like being totally discharged, ask me how I found this one out

In the long term get special voltage sensing DRL relay that switches the DRL only when the alternator is actually producing more than 13 volts.

or just when the engine/ignition is on

Glad to report that the trick of connecting to another battery seems to have worked.Dead one up to 10 v in 20 mins and now charging happily. Whether it will be good long term I do not know but thanks for the tip.

In my experience you get about two goes at that process and then you're buying a new one. Glad to hear go number 1 was successful!
