CAD Design Software

Can anybody recomend a cheap design software. I would like to be able to do 3D shapes and surfaces.

A proper cad system but free for home use, one of our toolmakers uses it for their tool design.

Solid Edge is very nice if you can aquire it. Now owned by Seimans PLM along side Unigraphics (NX).

Solidworks is the dogs danglies





You'd be surprised how quickly the sales people at B&Q try and assist you after ignoring you for the past 15 minutes when you try and start a chainsaw

Have look at Alibre. Other mid-range mainstream packages as SolidWorks, SolidEdge and Inventor are a bit overkill for hobby usage.
