Peugeot 205 Diesel Over Revving Problem

Hi Folks,

My Peugeot 205 (1994 ) has always had a tendency to rev slightly erratically. This problem has recently become much worse, spontaneously picking up revs out of the blue. It can be calmed down by slowing/loading the engine and once calmed it will stay calm as long as the revs are kept to a minimum which is of course not possible all the time.

I've checked for air leaks etc and dealt with any suspect looking hoses etc. I have been advised that it may simply be in need of an oil change. Is that likely? I have a feeling this is something trivial and doubt it to be the injection pump etc. Have installed new filter and also a new 'wax stat'.

Any ideas?

Thanks in Advance

Mike

Could possibly be oil leaking into the turbo. Does it smoke from exhaust at all?

Drain it and replace with the specified amount and see if it continues
