Rivets and rust

ok, you spend ages getting your chassis prep'd and painted to prevent rust. Then you drill 500 holes in it and insert rivets.

What stops the water from going through the rivet into the tubing?

If there is nothing, how do you prevent it rusting internally?

Option one: Use blind rivets and plenty of sealant.

Option two: Have you considered gluing the panels on? - see 'Bondage' lower down this section.

Cheers

Phil

Saw the 'bondage' bit and have posted quite a few comments. The outcome of that was you still need some rivets somewhere to stop the glued pannels moving around.

Not come across blind rivets. Will do the research, but don't all rivets end up with a hole through the middle?

I'm using both dome & c'sk head blind rivets. They are readly available from good fastener suppliers like Namric (the Nut & Bolt Store) in Brighton; RS also stock dome headed ones.
